Blackhawks today, via Twitter, announced that rooms at the Hilton Chicago are now sold out for the July 17-19 convention. Upon doing a quick look-see, there are still rooms available at the Hilton as of now, just none with convention packages apparently. Old-timers, Doug Jarrett and Lou Angotti are the newest Blackhawks Alumni confirmed for the event. Previously the Hawks announced on May 21st, three-day passes to the event were ‘sold-out,’ 124 days after they went on sale. Last year’s inaugural event sold out in 11 days. 2009 Hawks Convention Attendees Page - Convention FAQ -- Eddie Olczyk was drafted 25 years ago today – 1984, 3rd overall behind Mario Lemieux and Kirk Muller, and one spot ahead of Al Iafrate, who went to Toronto. Second City Hockey mentions this today The draft was held in Montreal. It’s the same draft LA picked future Atlanta Braves lefty Tom Glavine 69th overall out of high school in Massachusetts, and well ahead of guys like Brett Hull, Luc Robitaille, Don Sweeney, Cliff Ronning, Kirk McLean, Kjell Samuelsson and Gary Suter. That was a big draft as Patrick Roy, Stephane Richer, Scott Mellanby, Jeff Brown, Gary Roberts, Kevin Hatcher, Shayne Corson and Ray Sheppard were all selected among a host of other recogonizable names. Hawks fans would recall Trent Yawney (six spots ahead of Patrick Roy), Paul Ysebaert, Mike Peluso (the crazy one), Greg Smyth, Robert Dirk, Sylvain Cote, Kevin Miller, Tony Hrkac (who came out of retirement to play for the Houston Aeros late this season), Todd Gill, Kris King, and Mike Stapleton. Local product Jeff Rohlicek was drafted by Vancouver in the second round in that draft. Same year Peter Loob was drafted as well. Brent Sutter steps down as coach of New Jersey Devils nhl.com -- Big rumor going around today is a Sutter will soon be named Calgary’s new head coach. Brent, Darryl or Brian with the latter being the least likely. More on former Chicago Steel defenseman, Colorado College recruit and 2009 NHL entry 1st round prospect John Moore and his recent 3 days at the NHL scouting combine in Toronto, including being dressed down by Cam Neely. John Moore himself, blogs about the combine here This e-mail address is being protected from spambots. You need JavaScript enabled to view it
